Oriental Band

In 1955, the Edmonton Shrine Club formed the Oriental Band. Nobles Herb Peet and Tommy Fox began practices without instruments. It was waste baskets with the bottoms removed and covered with aircraft fabric of brightly painted colors that caused the Edmonton Oriental Band to come into being.

In 1956, the first uniforms were made by a dedicated wife and by 1960, the membership of the band had grown to 32 members who were all lovers of good music.

Noble Don Wamsley has performed as the Oriental Band Director since 1967. It is under his direction that the Oriental Band has routinely won first place in either the medium or large band categories.

There is no initiation fee but nominal annual dues are payable. The Unit meets every Monday night at the Glenrose at 7:30 p.m.

The Oriental Band uniform is shown in the picture above and the Unit provides the uniform except for the shoes.
